Congratulations to Michaela Coel and the Chewing Gum team, who have gained nominations in two categories at the Broadcast 2017 awards. The first series, which premiered on E4 in 2015 and is now available worldwide on Netflix, has been shortlisted for Best Comedy Programme and Best Multichannel Programme. The award ceremony takes place on the 1st February 2017 at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.
It has been a great 2016 for the extremely talented Michaela who has this year won recognition for her work and her performance as Tracey. In March Michaela won two RTS Programme Awards in the Comedy Performance and Breakthrough categories – the latter being a new category at the awards. At the RTS awards, she was also nominated in the Comedy Writing category.
In May, Michaela won a BAFTA Craft Award in the Breakthrough Talent and a BAFTA TV Award for Female Performance in a Comedy. Michaela and the series also earned BAFTA nominations in the Writer – Comedy and Scripted Comedy categories
The series also won a Screen Nation Film & Television Award in the public-voted category of Favourite Comedy Production, and not only has Chewing Gum won acclaim in the UK, Series One won the Special Jury’s Choice Award (Coup de Coeur du Jury Award) in the European section of the Festival De La Fiction which took place in La Rochelle in France on the 17th September.
