Chewing Gum wins the Special Jury’s Choice Award in the European section of the Festival De La Fiction in La Rochelle

Huge congratulations to Michaela Coel and the Chewing Gum team for scooping another award.  Chewing Gum won the Special Jury’s Choice Award (Coup de Coeur du Jury Award) in the European section of the Festival De La Fiction in La Rochelle – France, on the 17th September.

There are two awards in the European category, Best fiction and Special Jury Prize.  However, this year, the jury decided to add a third and new award that they called “favourite” or “crush” for Chewing Gum as they consider the series so exceptional that it wouldn’t fit into any of the existing categories.

It has been a great year for the extremely talented Michaela Coel who has this year won immense recognition for her work and her performance as Tracey.   In March this year, Michaela won two RTS Programme Awards in the Comedy Performance and Breakthrough categories – the latter being a new category at the awards.  At the RTS awards, Michaela was nominated in the Comedy Writing category.

In May, Michaela won a BAFTA Craft Award in the Breakthrough Talent and a BAFTA TV Award for Female Performance in a Comedy.  Michaela and the series also earned BAFTA nominations in the Writer – Comedy and Scripted Comedy categories.

Chewing Gum won a Screen Nation Film & Television Award in the public-voted category of Favourite Comedy Production.
