Chewing Gum Series 2 going global on Netflix, 4th April 2017
The second season of the hilarious and outrageous 6-part comedy CHEWING GUM is set to launch globally (excluding the UK) on Netflix on the 4th April. The multi award-winning series is created, written, produced by and stars BAFTA- and RTS-winner Michaela Coel, and celebrates the life of Tracey Gordon, an energetic young woman emerging from a delayed adolescence against the backdrop of a vibrant East London estate. Tracey wants more from life. More of everything. She’s twenty-four and still a virgin. A Christian who puts her faith in Beyoncé. A free spirit making the most of life with her strict mother, unpredictable sister and livewire friends.
Season One ended with Tracey and her on/off/on boyfriend Connor leaving the Pensbourne Estate where they grew up, walking into the sunset dressed only in their underpants. As Season Two begins, Tracey’s return to the Pensbourne isn’t going great. She’s sleeping in the back room of the shop she works in because her Mother won’t take her back, best friend Candice and surrogate Nan Esther won’t look her in the eye, and Connor’s in a new relationship with a woman who Tracey thinks looks like a hyena. The new season chases Tracey as she continues her late-running non-stop high-speed journey into adulthood, in a series that is part-drama, part-comedy, and always “brilliantly bawdy, blunt and bold” (VOGUE).
Chewing Gum is inspired by Coel’s award-winning one-woman play, Chewing Gum Dreams. The scripted comedy was originally commissioned by E4 (UK) and is produced by FremantleMedia UK owned label Retort (The IT Crowd, Birds Of A Feather). Executive Producers are Nana Hughes and Jon Rolph and Producers are John Pocock and Michaela Coel.
