Henry IX has been nominated for a prestigious Rose d’Or award in the Best Sitcom category. Programmes from 13 different countries have been nominated, and winners will be announced at the 56th annual ceremony in Berlin on 19 September, organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
The series is set in the fictitious, contemporary court of Henry IX (Charles Edwards), King of United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, just. This is the almost universal story of a middle-aged man trapped in a life he didn’t choose… except this one just happens to be the reigning British monarch. Penned for UKTV Gold by the legendary, multi award-winning comedy writing team Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, Henry IX is co-produced by Retort and Serious Comedy. The three-part series was directed by Vadim Jean and produced by Pete Thornton, and the Executive Producers were Jon Rolph and Tarquin Gotch.
